About Government Science College (Autonomous), Bengaluru
Government Science College (Autonomous), Bengaluru Urban was also known as GSC, Bengaluru established on 1st April 1921 under the management of Government of Karnataka.
It is one of the premier government co-educational colleges established to impart & provide in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone in the part of progress.
The college is affiliated to Bangalore University, Bengaluru and recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) on 1st April 1971 & 12(B) 23rd August 1994 under Act, 1956.
It is re-accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "A+" Grade - (CGPA Score 3.54 on a 4 Point Scale in 3rd Cycle) on 16th September 2016.
The Government Science College is born out of the visionary foresight of the erstwhile Maharaja (King) of Mysore, His Highness Shri Nalvadi Krishnaraja Wodeyar on the 1st of April 1921 as an intermediate college.
As a testimony to its leadership in higher education, the institution has grown from a modest intermediate college to a full-fledged undergraduate college and now into a postgraduate institution with research programs.
GSC has been dedicated to quality education and to preparing students for leadership in diverse walks of life while at the same time being tempered by social concern, empathy and visionary leadership across two centuries.
Owing to its scope and pace of change, post-2000 will go down in the history of GSC as the period of its most spectacular expansion and quality enhancement.
The introduction of PG courses, research programs, with two successive NAAC accreditations and more recently the autonomous status are some of the milestones of the last decade of the college.
This temple of enlightenment has stood the test of times as a beacon of knowledge for generations of youth who have served the society from pre-independence to the post-independent era.
The greatest testimonial is the contribution of its students to society and GSC is quietly proud to have contributed to society's growth over 94 years of glorious existence through a set of students who are etched as knowledge revolutionaries in the by-lanes of history.
The college offers three years undergraduate courses in Science stream with various specializations and also offers three years undergraduate course in Bachelor of Computer Application (BCA).
It also offers two years postgraduate courses in Science stream with various specializations under Bangalore University, Bengaluru. It also some doctorate courses in Science stream.

- The college has established an Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) on 27th July 2007 to assure the quality of the college and also details regarding submission of Annual Quality Assurance Reports (AQAR) to NAAC annually
- The college runs a canteen inside the campus where staff and students can have meals and snacks prepared in a hygienic manner and at an affordable cost
- Internet & Wi-Fi facilities may be availed by the students and teachers as per their needs
- Transportation facility is available for the students
- The college also has a hostel with providing all the facilities, security and good atmosphere, best suited for studies of the boys & girls coming from far-off places
- The college has a large playground with will-equipment for different sports like Cricket, Football, Volleyball, Hockey, Badminton and so on
- A medical facility has been available in the college for the benefit of the students
- State Government and Central Government offers a number of scholarships to the meritorious students and the students belonging to SC / ST / OBC
- A special complaint cell (Sexual Harassment Cell) has been formed for the female students in the college. Students can directly complain orally or by written application to the head of the cell. Apart from this, Ragging is strictly prohibited on the college campus
- The institution has provided ICT facilities like computers, projectors, audio-visual gadgets, scanners and printers to the departments and also other aids and a huge number of availability of books for effective delivery of curriculum and for inculcating the knowledge of the subject
- To sharpen the skill of students and their personality development, various curricular and extra-curricular activities are the regular features of the institution
- The college also organizes workshops, seminars, and conferences for improving teaching skills and methodology
- The college also provides NCC training to its students. The NCC cadets attend different camps and earn pride for themselves and for the college
- The college Unit NSS Wing performs different type of social services within and outside of the area
- The college consists Women Cell to help female students. This cell helps and guides girls to sort out from their personal problem and avoid them from any harassment
