Government Rajindra College Bathinda was established on 31st December 1940 and founded in memory of the Maharaja Rajinder Singh.

The college was established as a primary school in the year 1904 and turned into an Intermediate College in 1940. Later gradually the undergraduate courses in humanities stream were started in the year of 1950, Studies in the field of Science were started in 1955, B.Sc classes in the year of 1962 and the Commerce stream was introduced in the year of 1968.

It is one of the premier colleges established to impart & provide in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone in the part of progress.

The college is affiliated with Punjabi University, Patiala and it is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) under Act, 1956.

It is re-accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "B+" Grade (CGPA Score 2.62 on a 4 Point Scale in 2nd Cycle) on 16th September 2016.

The aim of the college was to help students in becoming good and secular citizens of the country who are conscious and aware of the challenges of changing times.

It is a co-educational government Institute, provided a regular course in which is located in the urban part of Bathinda played a pioneering role in the field of higher education.

The college also received the numbers of achievements awards in the field of education, sports and curricular activities under Punjabi University, Patiala.

The college offers three years undergraduate courses in Bachelor of Arts, Science, Commerce, and Management streams and two years of post-graduation in Arts and Science streams with various specializations under Punjabi University, Patiala. It offers Diploma and Add-On Certificate courses as well.
