Govt. Science College, Jabalpur was popularly known as Robertson College or Mahakoshal Mahavidyalaya, Jabalpur was established in 1836.
It is one of the premier colleges established to impart & provide in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone in the part of progress.
The college is affiliated with Rani Durgawati Vishwavidyalaya, Jabalpur and it is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) under Act, 1956.
It is re-accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "A" Grade (CGPA Score 3.28 on a 4 Point Scale in 2nd Cycle) on 27th March 2011.
The aim of the college was providing educational spiritual, intellectual, physical and cultural development of students also provide the ablest, the most efficient personalities in the different sphere of activities for the country.
It is a co-educational government Institute, provided a regular course in which is located in the urban part of Jabalpur played a pioneering role in the field of higher education.
The Robertson College established in 1836 as Saugor Govt. School in Saugor, upgraded as Saugor Collegiate School in 1860; it was destined to become the renowned Robertson College of Jabalpur.
Robertson College, named Mahakoshal Mahavidyalaya after independence had to undergo the process of bifurcation in 1962 into Mahakoshal Arts and Commerce College, and Govt Model Science College.
This has been an illustrious institution and is continuously enduing as a better academic arena. Later the college retained the status of Govt. College.
Robertson College first affiliated to Calcutta University, (from 1836 to 1890) then Allahabad University, (from 1891 to 1922); Nagpur University, (from 1923 to 1946); Sagar University, (from 1947 to 1956) and now affiliated to Rani Durgavati University, Jabalpur since 1957.
The present Govt. Engineering College’ Civil Department wing harbored Robertson College which in honor of the then commissioner Mr.
Benjamin Robertson named after him.
Govt. Science College attained the status of Model Science College in 1985 and autonomy in the year of 1990.
The college also received the numbers of achievements awards in the field of education, sports and curricular activities under Barkatullah University, Bhopal.
This college has conferred as the status as "College with Potential for Excellence (CPE)" Govt of India as the best college by their Rani Durgawati Vishwavidyalaya, Jabalpur.
The declaration of the institution as Centre of Excellence by the State Government has provided an impetus to perform better and all are geared up to outshine the previous performance.
The college offers three years undergraduate courses in Bachelor of Science streams with various specializations and two years of a postgraduate course in Science with various specializations under Rani Durgawati Vishwavidyalaya, Jabalpur. It also offers Ph.D program.
University examinations of different courses, examinations conducted by Rani Durgawati Vishwavidyalaya, Jabalpur and various other examinations are held in the college premises.
Admissions here also done through Govt. of M.P. online portal by the Department of Higher Education M.P. and hence gives a transparent and fair method of admission.
