About Govt. Polytechnic for Women

Govt. Polytechnic for Women, Srinagar was established in 1986 emerged as the first Technical Institute in Jammu and Kashmir state catering exclusively to women, thereby ushering them into an era of technology and creativity at the brink of the new millennium.

Pursuance of excellence

With the intervention of Tech. Edu. III, World Bank Assisted project, the institution has achieved major break throughs in areas like quality improvement, augmentation of infra-structure, curriculum development, staff development, networking with user and other organisations etc. The Polytechnic has won many accolades and has a distinction of receiving the

‘Best  Polytechnic Award-2005’ and the  ‘Best  Polytechnic Award-2011’

having been adjudged as the most outstanding polytechnic in North India by the National Institute of Technical Teachers Training and Research (NITTTR), Chandigarh. This is a due recognition of our achievements but also a sure reminder that there are more heights of excellence to be strived for.

MANAGEMENT

The institution is administered by the Directorate of Skill Development, Govt. of Jammu and Kashmir. The J&K Board of Technical Education, lays down curricula, conducts examinations and awards diplomas.

INFRASTRUCTURE

The Polytechnic

The campus is spread over a spacious area of about twelve acres of land. Under the Tech Edu-III project, new building blocks have been constructed. Two academic blocks, one each for Food Technology and Textile Designing came up in the campus in the last few years. Also, an additional building for Hostel was built up to increase the intake capacity of the present hostel.

VISION

Government Polytechnic for Women, Srinagar will continuously endeavor to offer need-based, flexible and employment-oriented, quality technical education and training programmes to usher in an era of substantial growth, progress and development of women.
 
The training will be imparted through formal and non-formal programmes and courses. This will produce quality women technicians whose competencies will be consistent with the changing requirements of different sectors of the industry, business and the economy.

 
A major thrust will be on entrepreneurial development, preparing the students in skills related to planning, manufacturing, marketing, quality control, maintenance, sales and general office administration procedures.
 
Continuing education programmes will be organized to meet the education and skill development needs of the community. The polytechnic will thus vigorously implement strategies aimed at elevating the style and standard of living of the community while generating revenue for institutional development. This will ultimately lead to autonomy and self-sustenance.
 
MISSION

The main aim is to enhance the empowerment of women in the state through technical education. The polytechnic will initiate and implement the following strategies to achieve its mission.

Offering need-based, high quality, flexible and relevant technician education programmes.
 
Ensuring Quality in all the “processes products “.
 
Enhancing IRG related activities for sustainability development.
 
Providing continuing education programmes to meet the fast changing skill development needs.
 
Providing need-based training and development opportunities for staff.
 
Improving instructional effectiveness by using a variety of instructional methods and aids.
 
Establishing an effective information management system (IMS) in the polytechnic & networking with national & international organisations for effective decision making & resources sharing.
 
Providing services to the community and the society through non-formal skill training and education to the underprivileged and challenged women in society.
 
Enhancing institutional facilities and modernising laboratories and workshops regularly.
 
Developing entrepreneurial skills in the students , facilitating job placement and offering “value addition “ trainings to enhance their placement opportunities.
 
Attaining academic, administrative, managerial and financial autonomy.
