Govt. P.G College, Garhakota (Dist. Sagar) was formerly known as Govt. Degree College, Garhakota was established on 19th February 1984 in the premises of Nagarpalika Bhavan, Garhakota and managed by Jan Bhagidari Samiti (JBS). The college has been taken by the Government of Madhya Pradesh on 15th September 1987.

It is one of the premier colleges established to impart & provide in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone in the part of progress.

The college is affiliated with Dr. Hari Singh Gour University, Sagar  and it is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 12(B) under Act, 1956.

The aim of the college was giving positive thinking and learn the quality education to make them aware about the education.

It is a co-educational government Institute, provided a regular course in which is located in the rural part of Sagar played a pioneering role in the field of higher education.

The college has been brought up and located in the new their campus in 2004. Later 2007 and 2008  Science and Commerce courses have been started

The college also received the numbers of achievements awards in the field of education, sports and curricular activities under Dr. Hari Singh Gour University, Sagar.

The college offers three years undergraduate courses in Bachelor of Arts, Science, and Commerce streams with various specializations and two years of a postgraduate course in Arts with various specializations under Dr. Hari Singh Gour University, Sagar.

University examinations of different courses, examinations conducted by Dr. Hari Singh Gour University, Sagar and various other examinations are held in the college premises.

Admissions here also done through Govt. of M.P. online portal by the Department of Higher Education M.P. and hence gives a transparent and fair method of admission.
