Govt. Girls' Post-Graduate College, Ujjain was established in 1958 by the Govt. of Madhya Pradesh and managed by the Jan Bhgidari Samiti (JBS).

The college has been opened in the building of Vijayaraje Girls Higher Secondary School, Freeganj Ujjain and shifted to the current building in 1963 which is located in Dashera Maidan, Ujjain.

It is one of the premier colleges established to impart & provide in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone in the part of progress.

The college is affiliated with Vikram University, Ujjain and it is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) under Act, 1956.

It is re-accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "A" Grade (CGPA Score 3.19 on a 4 Point Scale in 2nd Cycle) on 30th July 2016.

The aim of the college was touching the skies with academic excellence, not only submitting to the ethos of course requirements and examination system but being conscious about their leadership potential and their faith - that their feminism will lead them to make a society free from discrimination for the development of the strong nation.

It is a woman government Institute, provided a regular course in which is located in the urban part of Ujjain played a pioneering role in the field of higher education.

The college also conferred as a status of Centre for Excellence and received the numbers of achievements awards in the field of education, sports and curricular activities under Vikram University, Ujjain.

The college offers three years undergraduate courses in Bachelor of Arts, Science, Commerce, Home Science streams and offers two years of post-graduate in Arts, Science, and Commerce streams with various specializations under Vikram University, Ujjain. It also offers Post Graduate Diploma and Add-On Course.

University examinations of different courses, examinations conducted by Vikram University, Ujjain and various other examinations are held in the college premises.

Admissions here also done through Govt. of M.P. online portal by the Department of Higher Education M.P. and hence gives a transparent and fair method of admission.
