Govt. College of Education, Yavatmal was established on 15th June 1968 the only college provides pre-service and in-service training in the field of teacher education to the students.

It is one of the premier colleges established to impart & provide in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone in the part of progress.

The college is affiliated with Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University, Amravati. It is also recognized and approved by National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE), Bhopal for B.Ed courses.

It is accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC)  with "B++" Grade (in 1st Cycle) on 28th February 2005.

The institution founded in 1944 namely junior College of Education was converted into the comprehensive college in the year 1968 and again in 1997 this institution was bifurcated and the college education upgraded as the college of Teacher Education (C.T.E.) and the Junior college of Education was upgraded as District Institute of Education (D.I.E.T).

The aims such as a complete development of teaching personality and another related factor through the process of training to teachers and to cultivate teaching values the institution is heading towards progression.

It is co-educational government college, providing a regular course in which is located in the urban part of Yavatmal played a pioneering role in the field of higher education.

The college offers two years Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) courses for those who have completed their graduation with minimum aggregate of 50% from any recognized university are eligible to apply for this course.

Students here are admitted who completed their graduation from recognized university with at least 50% marks in major or in aggregate at the Degree level. But Scheduled Castes (S.C.), Scheduled Tribes (S.T.) & (O.B.C) candidates are to be entitled with a relaxation 5% marks ineligibility for admission.

The college also offers two years Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) course through distance mode under Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University (YCMOU), Nashik for those who have completed their graduation with minimum aggregate of 50% from any recognized university are eligible to apply for this course.
