Govt. College of Education, Burdwan was established in 1964. Govt. College of Education, Burdwan is affiliated to The University of Burdwan & recognized by N.C.T.E.

Government College of Education, Burdwan is not only a prominent name in the domain of Teacher Training education of West- Bengal, but also it is the only Government training College in the district. Being a Government College, under the aegis of Higher Education Department, Govt. of West-Bengal, this institution is controlled and administrated by the rules and regulations as laid down by the Government. However, for the academic pursuit college is affiliated to the University of Burdwan.

The teaching staff of the college are recruited through Public Service Commission, West Bengal and they have to serve all the Government training colleges within the ambit of Higher Education Department, which effectuates an accumulation of vast teaching and administrative experiences through various universities. In this process, teaching – learning in this Govt. College is dynamic and vibrant. This institution organises different seminars, both at regional and national levels. It also takes steps to inculcate new ideas and hands - on experience among the teachers of the adjacent schools by arranging workshop. As an essential adjunct to the B.Ed. curriculum, we organise many social programmes and observe various red letter days of our life through remembrance, to infuse among the students our saga history and rich cultural heritage. We strive to kindle the perfection of the students, already in them. The total student intake of the college is fifty per year, of which 25 seats are for fresh candidates and the rest are for the deputed candidates. Normally the admission process of the college starts on someday of March every year.

The whole process is controlled and regulated by the college itself strictly following the rules and regulations as laid down by the NCTE. The admission process is done through online computerised network system. Information in this regard is available in the college website in due time. Classes for each academic year start on 1st July of that year. The whole course is divided into four semesters. Methods subjects like Bengali, English, Hindi, History, Geography, Economics, Physical Science, Mathematics are taught here. However, availability of method subjects may change in any academic year.

It nurtures the skill of existing deputed teachers for better classroom application as well as invokes young aspirants to be an ideal teacher. The college strives to establish itself successfully as a foremost teacher training college under Burdwan University and as well as its commitment towards advanced teacher training.
