Govt. College Mananthavady, Wayanad was established on 1st September 1981 and run by State Govt. of Kerala.

It is one of the premier colleges established to impart & provide in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone on the part of progress.

The college is affiliated with Kannur University, Kannur formerly affiliated with University of Calicut, Malappuram and it is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) under Act, 1956.

It is accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "B" Grade (CGPA Score 2.54 on a 4 Point Scale in 1st Cycle) in 2014.

The aim of the college is to mold the students into better individuals and guide them to contribute constructively towards national goals by upholding the values of secularism, national integration, and social commitment and to make them intellectually competent, morally upright, psychologically integrated, physically healthy and acceptable to the society.

It is a co-educational government Institute, providing a regular course in which is located in the rural part of Wayanad played a pioneering role in the field of higher education.

Government College Mananthavady had been a long cherished dream of the marginalized people of the hill area of Mananthavady Taluk of Wayanad District.

The college started functioning with Pre-degree III and IV Groups with 80 students in each, in a temporary shed attached to Thongchai Church.

The first UG course B.Com was started in the academic year 1991–92. At present, the B.Com. the degree is specialized in finance. The P.G. Programme in Commerce started functioning in the academic year 2012-13.

The P.G department of commerce has 40 UG seats and 20 PG seats. The department has a prestigious Management Club and conducted a Commerce and Management Fest Esperanza in the academic year 2014–15.

B.A. English was started in 1993-94, B.A.Dev. Economics in 1998–99 and B.Sc.Electronics in 1999–2000.

Sri P. J. Joseph, Earlier Education Minister of Kerala inaugurated the new permanent college building on 27th February 1999, and the college was shifted to the permanent building. Wayanad Heritage Museum is a major attraction in the college.

The college had received many awards and accolades at a city, state and national level for their educational advancements also received the numbers of achievements awards in the field of sports and curricular activities under the Kannur University, Kannur.

The college offers three years undergraduate and two years of postgraduate courses in Arts, Commerce, and Science streams with various specializations under the Kannur University, Kannur. It also offers the Ph.D. and Add-On Certificate courses.

University examinations of different courses, examinations conducted by the Kannur University, Kannur, and various other examinations are held in the college premises.
