About Govt. Arts & Science College, Kozhikode
Govt. Arts & Science College, Kozhikode was established on 29th July 1968 and the college was started functioning at Govt. Training College, Mananchira, Kozhikode under the principalship of Prof. Karimpuzha Ramakrishnan on 10 August 1964.
It is one of the premier colleges established to impart & provide in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone on the part of progress.
The college is affiliated with University of Calicut, Malappuram and it is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) on 5th September 1988 under Act, 1956.
It is re-accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "B++" Grade (CGPA Score 2.89 on a 4 Point Scale in 3rd Cycle) on 12th September 2017.
The aim of the college is inculcating in students social consciousness and help them to take up social works also to offer proper counseling to those who suffer from emotional stress and other problems.
It is a co-educational government Institute, providing a regular course in which is located in the urban part of Kozhikode played a pioneering role in the field of higher education.
The college was shifted in 1968 to the present location, Meenchanda covering an area of 20.15 acres. The land was donated to the government by the Zamorin family to start an educational institution.
The college conferred the status of grant-in-aid college that the fees and all the facilities for the students are fixed by the government. The student's admission is done as per the admission criteria prescribed by the affiliating university.
The college had received many awards and accolades at a city, state and national level for their educational advancements also received the numbers of achievements awards in the field of sports and curricular activities under the University of Calicut, Malappuram.
The college offers three years undergraduate and two years of postgraduate courses in Arts, Commerce, and Science streams with various specializations under the University of Calicut, Malappuram. It also offers the Ph.D. course.
University examinations of different courses, examinations conducted by the University of Calicut, Malappuram, and various other examinations are held in the college premises.

- The college has a significant presence in the field of research. A number of major & minor research projects are awarded to the faculty members by the UGC and other bodies
- The college has established an Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) on 16th December 2004 to assure the quality of the college and also details regarding submission of Annual Quality Assurance Reports (AQAR) to NAAC annually
- The college has a large playground with well-equipment for different sports like Cricket, Football, Volleyball, Hockey, Badminton and so on
- A medical facility has been available in the college for the benefit of the students
- State Government and Central Government offers a number of scholarships to the meritorious students and the students belonging to SC / ST / OBC
- The institution has provided ICT facilities like computers, projectors, audio-visual gadgets, scanners and printers to the departments and also other aids and a huge number of availability of books for effective delivery of curriculum and for inculcating the knowledge of the subject
- A special complaint cell (Sexual Harassment Cell) has been formed for the female students in the college. Students can directly complain orally or by written application to the head of the cell. Apart from this, Ragging is strictly prohibited on the college campus
- To sharpen the skill of students and their personality development, various curricular and extra-curricular activities are the regular features of the institution
- The college also provides NCC training to its students. The NCC cadets attend different camps and earn pride for themselves and for the college
- The college Unit NSS Wing performs different type of social services within and outside of the area
- The college also organizes workshops, seminars, and conferences for improving teaching skills and methodology
