Government Women`s College, Mandya was also known as Government College for Women, Mandya was established on 6th October 1971.

It is one of the premier institutions established to impart & provide in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone in the part of progress.

The college is affiliated to University of Mysore, Mysuru and recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) on 23rd February 1999 under Act, 1956.

It is re-accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "B++" Grade - (CGPA Score 2.87 on a 4 Point Scale in 2nd Cycle) in 15th February 2016.

It is a Government College exclusively for Women situated in Mandya a Semi Urban city. It began as a branch of Government First grade college, Mandya which was a co-ed college in the year 1970.

In the year 1971, it was bifurcated into Government College for Women and Government Boys College to accommodate the growing number of women students seeking admission.

They are proud to say that it is nearing its golden jubilee celebrations. This Institution is a brain child of visionaries and educationalists of Mandya, prominent among them being Sri K.V. Shankaragowda, the then Education Minister of Karnataka Government.

The prime motto for founding the institution was to cater to the needs of higher education among rural women folk.

The college which was started in a temporary arrangement now has almost reached its pinnacle providing education to about 2600 students in all branches of learning.

The college now offers both undergraduate and post graduate courses. Undergraduate courses consist of B.A., B.Sc., B.Com, B.B.M courses. We are happy to state that results exceed more than 95-98% in a branch of Science, the majority of them securing distinction and first class.

The results in Arts branch is always above 85-90%.

B.Com students are getting above 75-80% and B.B.M, the youngest branch of the college is more than 65-70% results. In P.G Departments the result is 100%.

Government College for Women, Mandya is an institution funded and managed by the State Government. The College has 22 departments including 5 departments of languages of which English and Kannada have optional also. In total it offers 16 combinations apart from B.Com and B.B.M. The College also offers 4 PG courses along with an Add-on course in Computer Networking.

Most of the students of the college are from rural and socially disadvantaged sections. Without this college at least 20-25% would have discontinued their studies. Hence the college feels that it is the moral obligation of the college to provide the best facilities available elsewhere. Hence the institution is making all efforts in developing the college as the center for excellence.

The college aims at achieving high quality in all its endeavors. Keeping that in view the college has planned and implemented several activities and has made a sincere effort to move forward and reach excellence with a total commitment to involving all the stake holders.

The college with all its potential and with the assistance of UGC is moving towards excellence. Their next move is towards getting autonomous status.
