Government Physical Education College for Women, Hooghly was established in 1984. The college is managed by under the directorate of Hooghly Education Department, Govt. of West Bengal.

The college is running Bachelor of Physical Education ( B. P. Ed.) Course and only women candidates are allowed to sit for admission test. Permanent affiliation given by the Burdwan University in the year 1998.

The College comes under the University of Burdwan. This University was started in 1960 with Sukumar Sen as its first Vice-chancellor. It occupies an exalted place amongst the universities of West Bengal. It has been awarded with 4 star statuses by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) to acknowledge the contribution of Burdwan University in the educational development of the state.

The jurisdiction of the university spreads across five districts of West Bengal - Burdwan, Hooghly (excluding Serampore Subdivision), Bankura, Birbhum and Purulia, nourishing more than 100 colleges.

The Government Physical Education College for Women, Hooghly has been established in the year 1984 and housed at Government Training College, Hooghly under the directorate of Higher Education Department, Govt. of West Bengal view that women candidates of West Bengal and other states will be benefited through this Teachers Training facilities as there were acute stratagem of Trained Physical Education Teacher.

This college is affiliated to the University of Burdwan , Rajbati, Dist- Burdwan. The college is running Bachelor of Physical Education (B. P.Ed.) Course and only women candidates are allowed to sit for admission test. The course duration is one academic year and only graduate of any discipline can apply for this course. Permanent affiliation given by the Burdwan University in the year 1998.

The Govt. Physical Education College for Women, Hooghly has been recognized for starting February 28, 2019 ntake 50 students in terms of Sec.(1) of the NCTE Act, 1993.
