Government Nagarjuna Post-Graduate (Autonomous) College of Science, Raipur was established in 1948. It is one of the premier institutions to impart & provide a platform in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone in the path of progress.

The college is affiliated to Pt. Ravishankar Shukla University, Raipur and recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) Act, 1956. It is re-accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "B" Grade in 2014.

Since its inception, the institute was established with the mantra "Yogah Karmasu Kaushalam" and has grown with it, and continues to make its mark as a unique institution under the special mission of social development and empowerment through education.

Initially, the institution was set up near the old museum of Raipur and also in the Govt. High School, Raipur. Late Umadas Mukherjee, the founder principal, a visionary in the field of education, in his wistful endeavor pledged to steer the institute and the region into an era of science and technology.

In its initial years, the college was affiliated to the Saugar University. The college began its journey with 126 students for its Intermediate Science Course which was upgraded to three years Bachelor Degree Courses in 1950.

The college has earned the recognition as a leading institution of repute due to its significant contribution to the development of the youth of the region.

The college offers three years Degree Courses & PG Courses in Science stream under Pt. Ravishankar Shukla University, Raipur. It also offers some Career Oriented Courses / Add-On Course.
