Government Mohindra College, Patiala was one of the oldest institutions in the entire North India established as an intermediate college on 30th March 1875 was a gift of H. H. Maharaja Mohinder Singh.

In 1880, intermediate classes were started and in 1887, to commemorate the 50th year of the reign of Her Majesty Queen Victoria, the college was upgraded to B.A. standard of Punjab University, Lahore.

It is one of the premier colleges established to impart & provide in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone in the part of progress.

The college is affiliated with Panjab University, Chandigarh formerly affiliated with Calcutta University, Kolkata and it is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) under Act, 1956.

It is re-accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "A" Grade (CGPA Score 3.86 on a 4 Point Scale in 2nd Cycle) on 19th February 2016.

The aim of the college was to provide free education to the girls i.e state subjects as this region was educationally impoverished.

It is a co-educational government Institute, provided a regular course in which is located in the urban part of Patiala played a pioneering role in the field of higher education.

In recognition of its contribution to higher learning, the Govt. of India issued a commemorative Postage Stamp on Mohindra College on 14th March 1988. Later on the State Govt. adjudged the college as one of the four ‘Model’ colleges of the State.

Recently it got the status of “Community College” by the Ministry of Human Resource and Development (MHRD), Government of India.

This college has conferred as the status as "College with Potential for Excellence (CPE)" & 'Star College in Life Sciences’ by DBT, Govt of India as the best college by their Panjab University, Chandigarh.

The college also received the numbers of achievements awards in the field of education, sports and curricular activities under Panjab University, Chandigarh.

The college offers three years undergraduate courses in Bachelor of Arts, Science, Commerce, and Management streams and postgraduate courses in Arts and Science with various specializations under Panjab University, Chandigarh. It also offers Diploma, Post Graduate Diploma, Add-On Certificate courses as well.
