Government Madhav Science P.G. College, Ujjain was popularly known as Madhav Vigyan Mahavidyalaya, Ujjain was set up in 1951 in Ujjain, a highly venerated pilgrimage centre enshrining Mahakaleshwar and a place notably rich in cultural heritage, tradition, and civilization in Madhya Pradesh.
The college was established in 1892 by the Gwalior Durbar to offer various courses within the Madhav Arts & Commerce College, Dewas Gate, Ujjain, affiliated to Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar University, Agra (formerly known as Agra University, Agra).
It is one of the premier colleges established to impart & provide in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone in the part of progress.
The college at present affiliated with Vikram University, Ujjain and it is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) on 1st July 1970 under Act, 1956.
It is re-accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "A" Grade (CGPA Score 3.17 on a 4 Point Scale in 2nd Cycle) on 14th September 2015.
It became a constituent college of Vikram University, Ujjain when the latter came into existence in 1957 and remained so till 1969. Then it became an affiliated college of the university from 1969 to 1995.
From 1995 to 2005 it again acquired the status of a constituent college of the university. From 2005 onwards it is an affiliated college of the university.
The aim of the college was offered adequately strengthened to develop appropriate skills, which are significant not only to the students but also to the local, regional and national needs also sufficient freedom was allowed to the students to choose the courses best suited to their interests and capabilities
It is a co-educational government Institute, provided a regular course in which is located in the urban part of Ujjain played a pioneering role in the field of higher education.
Subsequently, the then ruler of the Gwalior state his highness Maharaja Madhav Rao scandia allowed this college to be named after him, and then this institution came to be called the "Madhav college."
In 1969, it was divided into two independent units.
After then the science faculty is working under an independent unite "Madhav Vigyan Mahavidyalaya".
College was selected as an Autonomous college in the year 1989. In 1960 post-graduate classes of the university in science subjects were started on it. After making a humble beginning with a small enrolment, faculty, and infrastructure, as an institution run by the state government.
The college offers three years undergraduate courses in Bachelor of Science streams with various specializations and two years of a postgraduate course in Science with various specializations under Vikram University, Ujjain. It also offers Add-On Postgraduate Diploma, and Certificates courses.
The college also has a contact centre under Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), New Delhi to offer UG, PG, & Add-On Certificate courses through distance mode.
The college has been selected among one of the best 12 colleges in MP by the department of higher education Govt. of MP for signing MoUs with premier institutes and industries.
This college has been selected on the basis of merit and performance for RUSA (Rastriy Uchch Shiksha Abhiyan).grants under two components Research & Innovation & Infrastructure.
College was selected under the COSIP scheme by the Central University Grant Commission, New Delhi.
University examinations of different courses, examinations conducted by Vikram University, Ujjain and various other examinations are held in the college premises.
Admissions here also done through Govt. of M.P. online portal by the Department of Higher Education M.P. and hence gives a transparent and fair method of admission.
