Government Kamla Nehru Mahila Mahavidyalaya, Damoh was popularly known as Govt. K.N. Mahila Mahavidyalaya, Damoh was established on 1st July 1964 as an arts college by a managing body named Shastri Smarak Sanstha in Damoh.

It is one of the premier colleges established to impart & provide in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone in the part of progress.

The college is affiliated with Dr. Hari Singh Gour University, Sagar and it is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) in August 1976 under Act, 1956.

It is re-accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "B+" Grade (CGPA Score 2.53 on a 4 Point Scale in 2nd Cycle) on 5th November 2016.

The aim of the college was to develop academic atmosphere, competence among the girls and eradicate the ill values present in.

It is a women's government Institute, provided a regular course in which is located in the urban part of Damoh played a pioneering role in the field of higher education.

On 1st October 1982, the college was undertaken by Govt. of Madhya Pradesh Higher Education Department.

At that time, there was no institution of higher education in this region of Bundelkhand. Late Mr. R.P. Mody a renowned freedom fighter, took a pioneering role in the establishment of this college.

Earlier the college was running in a privately rented house. In 1974 a major progress took place when the college developed and built its own building in civil ward area of the city.

Initially, only arts faculty was there. The Science courses and home science was introduced on 1st July 1983, in 1987 M.Sc. in home management course was started.

To carry on this institution towards IT technology, computer department was introduced in 2002 under the self-financing scheme with BCA and B.Sc/B.A/B.Com with Computer Application Programmes.

The college offers three years undergraduate courses in Bachelor of Arts, Science, Commerce, and Management streams with various specializations and two years of a postgraduate course in Arts and Science with various specializations under Dr. Hari Singh Gour University, Sagar.

The college also has a contact center under Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), New Delhi to offer UG, PG, & Add-On Certificate courses through distance mode.

University examinations of different courses, examinations conducted by Dr. Hari Singh Gour University, Sagar and various other examinations are held in the college premises.

Admissions here also done through Govt. of M.P. online portal by the Department of Higher Education M.P. and hence gives a transparent and fair method of admission.
