About Government Home Science College, Chandigarh
Government Home Science College, Chandigarh was established in 1961 was one of the pioneer institutes in Home Science in the India.
It is one of the premier colleges established to impart & provide in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone in the part of progress.
The college is affiliated with Panjab University, Chandigarh and it is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) under Act, 1956.
It is re-accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "A" Grade (CGPA Score 3.02 on a 4 Point Scale in 2nd Cycle) in 2016.
The aim of the college was to five Knowledge For Service- stands for the spark that ignites and motivates us to give our students academic excellence as well as cultural enrichment to build holistic and multifaceted personality to face the future challenges and serve the society to make it a better place.
It is a woman government Institute, provided a regular course in which is located in the urban part of Chandigarh played a pioneering role in the field of higher education.
The college also received the numbers of achievements awards in the field of education, sports and curricular activities under Panjab University, Chandigarh.
The college offers an array of higher education options including Ph.D. in Foods & Nutrition, Human Development & Family Relations, and Clothing & Textiles.
The college offers three years undergraduate courses in Bachelor of Home Science (B.Sc. Home Science) streams and postgraduate courses in Master of Home Science (M.Sc. Home Science) stream with various specialization under Panjab University, Chandigarh. It also offers Post Graduate Diploma, Add-On Certificate courses as well.
The college has been recently introduced as five specializations namely Apparel and Textile Design, Dietetics, Human Development and Family Relations, Interior Design and Resource Management along with a B.Sc.
Home Science Composite course.

- The college has a library with a good number of books (both text and reference) on various subjects to meet the needs of the students as well as the teachers with reading room facility. Daily Newspapers and selected journals are also regularly subscribed
- State of the Art Laboratories with sufficient space and all the necessary equipment are made available to various departments
- The college has taken up the responsibility of imparting necessary, effective and practical education to the students so that they can reach great heights and attain maximum achievements in their life
- The college also has a hostel with providing all the facilities, security and good atmosphere, best suited for studies of the boys & girls coming from far-off places
- The college has established an Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) on 27th October 2014 to assure the quality of the college and also details regarding submission of Annual Quality Assurance Reports (AQAR) to NAAC annually
- Internet & Wi-Fi facilities may be availed by the students and teachers as per their needs
- The Transportation facility is available for students
- The college has a significant presence in the field of research. A number of major & minor research projects are awarded to the faculty members by the UGC and other bodies
- A special complaint cell (Sexual Harassment Cell) has been formed for the female students in the college. Students can directly complain orally or by written application to the head of the cell. Apart from this, Ragging is strictly prohibited on the college campus
- The college has a large playground with well-equipment for different sports like Cricket, Football, Volleyball, Hockey, Badminton and so on
- A medical facility has been available in the college for the benefit of the students
- State Government and Central Government offers a number of scholarships to the meritorious students and the students belonging to SC / ST / OBC
- The institution has provided ICT facilities like computers, projectors, audio-visual gadgets, scanners and printers to the departments and also other aids and a huge number of availability of books for effective delivery of curriculum and for inculcating the knowledge of the subject
- To sharpen the skill of students and their personality development, various curricular and extra-curricular activities are the regular features of the institution
- The college also provides NCC training to its students. The NCC cadets attend different camps and earn pride for themselves and for the college
- The college Unit NSS Wing performs different type of social services within and outside of the area
- The college also organizes workshops, seminars, and conferences for improving teaching skills and methodology
- The college consists Women Cell to help female students. This cell helps and guides girls to sort out from their personal problem and avoid them from any harassment
