Government Girls P.G. College, Rewa was established by Late Prime Minister Mrs. Indira Gandhi on 4th July 1961 and managed by Jan Bhagidari Samiti (JBS).

Initially, on 1st August 1961, the first session of the college commenced in the building of Government Praveen Kumari Higher Secondary School. Later, in December 1968 it is transferred to its own building situated in Kothi compound in the heart of the city.

It is one of the premier colleges established to impart & provide in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone in the part of progress.

The college is affiliated with Awadhesh Pratap Singh University, Rewa and it is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) on 1st June 1972 under Act, 1956.

It is accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "B+" Grade (in 1st Cycle) in February 2006.

The aim of the college is the acquisition, preservation, and transmission of knowledge to promote national and rational outlook with scientific temper among the girls of the region.

It is a woman government Institute, provided a regular course in which is located in the urban part of Rewa played a pioneering role in the field of higher education.

The college conferred the status of grant-in-aid college that the fees and all the facilities for the students are fixed by the government.

The college received the numbers of achievements awards in the field of education, sports and curricular activities under Awadhesh Pratap Singh University, Rewa.

The college offers three years undergraduate courses in Bachelor of Arts, Science, Commerce, and Home Science streams and offers two years of post-graduate in Arts, Science, Commerce and, Home Science streams with various specializations under Awadhesh Pratap Singh University, Rewa. It also offers Certification and Add-On Courses.

University examinations of different courses, examinations conducted by Awadhesh Pratap Singh University, Rewa and various other examinations are held in the college premises.

Admissions here also done through Govt. of M.P. online portal by the Department of Higher Education M.P. and hence gives a transparent and fair method of admission.
