Government Dental College, Kozhikode was established in 1964.

Its affiliated to University of Calicut.

It is the second Dental College to be established in the state.

The college was started as a small department of Dentistry at Calicut Medical College in 1969.

The college was further expanded as a Dental wing with four specialties in 1974. In 1981 the Government decided to upgrade the wing to a full fledged   Dental College.

The B.D.S.Course was started with thirty students in 1982. Dr. B.R.R. Varma, Prof. of Periodontics, Dental College, and Trivandrum was appointed as the special Officer for this College.
