Government College of Teacher Education (GCTE), Kokrajhar was established in 1971.

The college is affiliated to Gauhati University, Guwahati established in 1948 under the Guwahati University Act 1947 and recognized by National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE).

It is one of the prominent institute in the region of Korkrajhar. The college was set up with an objective of producing highly trained and qualified secondary level teaching professionals.

The institute offers one year Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) course for those who have completed there graduation with minimum aggregate of 45 % from any recognized university are eligible to apply for this course. But Scheduled Castes (S.C.), Scheduled Tribes (S.T.) & (O.B.C) candidates are to be entitled with a relaxation 5% marks in eligibility for admission.

Students here admitted based on the merit basis of marks obtained in the qualifying examination and / or in the entrance examination or any other selection process  as per the policy of the central government / University.
