Government College for Women Parade, Jammu was established on 1st June 1944 as Maharani Mahila College through Mahila education society(registered body of the then prominent and respectable women of Jammu ) at the instance of Maharani Tara Devi.

It was taken over by the Govt. of Jammu & Kashmir on 25th November 1953 and was renamed as Govt. College for Women Parade, Jammu. It continued to be the only women college of Jammu province up to 1971.

It is one of the premier autonomous institutions to impart & provide in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone in the part of progress.

This is the first Women College of Jammu Province & located in the foothills of 'Maa Vaishno Devi' and shore of Sacred 'Suryaputri Tawishi' in the Old Jammu City Area.

The college is affiliated to University of Jammu, Jammu and recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) on under Act, 1956. The UGC declared the college as a “College with Potential for Excellence”

It is accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "A" Grade.

As higher education has to be commensurate with market demand for placement of students, this college has aptly received Grant-in-aid from UGC for nine career-oriented courses that include Functional English, Archeology and Museology, Tourism and Travel Management, Bio-Informatics, Food Processing and Quality Control and Information Management.

This college has acquired the prestigious name in the field of higher education that offers the largest number of courses from Arts, Science, Commerce, & B.C.A. (including shorthand typing course) with 42 combinations, to students. A total of 5670 students is pursuing their degrees in various disciplines including P.G. in Home Science and Music.
