About Government College (Autonomous), Angul
Government College (Autonomous), Angul was established in 1957 started as intermediate college was the pioneering effort of the Chief Minister Dr. H. K. Mahatab and Sri Kumuda Chandra Singh the then MLA of Hindol and was taken over by the Government of Orissa.
Since its inception started as an intermediate (I.Sc.) college and the name of the college has undergone changes time and again and finally assumed the name Government College, Angul in the year 1976. With its vertical academic growth, the college was conferred with Autonomous Status in 2006.
It is one of the premier colleges established to impart & provide in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone in the part of progress.
It is affiliated with the Utkal University, Bhubaneswar and it is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) under Act, 1956.
It is accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "B+" Grade (CGPA Score 2.53 on a 4 Point Scale in 2nd Cycle) on 16th December 2016.
The college has prime goals and objective of all round personality development of young citizen, and to inculcate moral, social and democratic values.
It is a co-educational government Institute, providing a regular course which is located in a rural part of an Angul played a pioneering role in the field of higher education.
This college has conferred as the status as "College with Potential for Excellence (CPE)" and the best college by their Utkal University, Bhubaneswar. Also numbers of an award in publication, offering scholarship also awarded by the different societies.
The college offers two years intermediate courses in Arts streams with various specializations under Council of Higher Secondary Education, Odisha.
The college also offers three years undergraduate courses in Arts, Commerce, Management, and Science streams with various specializations and two years post graduate courses in Arts and Science streams with various specializations under Utkal University, Bhubaneswar.

- The college has a library with a good number of books (both text and reference) on various subjects to meet the needs of the students as well as the teachers with reading room facility. Daily Newspapers and selected journals are also regularly subscribed
- State of the Art Laboratories with sufficient space and all the necessary equipment are made available to various departments
- The college has taken up the responsibility of imparting necessary, effective and practical education to the students so that they can reach great heights and attain maximum achievements in their life
- The college has established an Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) on 23rd June 2014 to assure the quality of the college and also details regarding submission of Annual Quality Assurance Reports (AQAR) to NAAC annually
- Internet & Wi-Fi facilities may be availed by the students and teachers as per their needs
- The Transportation facility is available for students
- The college has a significant presence in the field of research. A number of major & minor research projects are awarded to the faculty members by the UGC and other bodies
- The college has a large playground with well-equipment for different sports like Cricket, Football, Volleyball, Hockey, Badminton and so on
- A medical facility has been available in the college for the benefit of the students
- State Government and Central Government offers a number of scholarships to the meritorious students and the students belonging to SC / ST / OBC
- The institution has provided ICT facilities like computers, projectors, audio-visual gadgets, scanners and printers to the departments and also other aids and a huge number of availability of books for effective delivery of curriculum and for inculcating the knowledge of the subject
- A special complaint cell (Sexual Harassment Cell) has been formed for the female students in the college. Students can directly complain orally or by written application to the head of the cell. Apart from this, Ragging is strictly prohibited on the college campus
- To sharpen the skill of students and their personality development, various curricular and extra-curricular activities are the regular features of the institution
- The college also organizes workshops, seminars, and conferences for improving teaching skills and methodology
- The college Unit NSS Wing performs different type of social services within and outside of the area
- The college also provides NCC training to its students. The NCC cadets attend different camps and earn pride for themselves and for the college
- The college consists Women Cell to help female students. This cell helps and guides girls to sort out from their personal problem and avoid them from any harassment
