About Government College Attingal
Government College Attingal (Dist. Thiruvananthapuram) was established on 29th August 1975 and run by State Govt. of Kerala.
The college was formally inaugurated on 29th August 1975 by Sri. Vakkom Purushothaman, then Hon. Minister for labor. Prof. H. M. Kassim who was initially appointed Special Officer became the first Principal of the College.
It is one of the premier colleges established to impart & provide in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone on the part of progress.
The college is affiliated with University of Kerala, Thiruvananthapuram and it is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) on 9th April 1990 under Act, 1956.
It is accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "B" Grade ( in 1st Cycle) in 2015.
The aim of the college is inculcating in students social consciousness and help them to take up social works also to offer proper counseling to those who suffer from emotional stress and other problems.
It is a co-educational government Institute, providing a regular course in which is located in the semi-urban part of Thiruvananthapuram played a pioneering role in the field of higher education.
The college started functioning with a student strength of 160 in 2 batches of Pre-degree class of 80 students each. The Institution was raised to the status of a first grade College in the academic year 1978-79 with the starting of B.Com. Degree course.
In 1979-1980, Economics was introduced at the Degree level. M.A. Economics was started during the year 1993-94. The college is an approved Skill Development Centre of ASAP initiated by the Government of Kerala.
The college had received many awards and accolades at a city, state and national level for their educational advancements also received the numbers of achievements awards in the field of sports and curricular activities under the University of Kerala, Thiruvananthapuram.
The college offers three years undergraduate and two years of postgraduate courses in Arts, Commerce, and Science streams with various specializations under the University of Kerala, Thiruvananthapuram. It also offers the Ph.D., and Add-On Certificate courses.
University examinations of different courses, examinations conducted by the University of Kerala, Thiruvananthapuram, and various other examinations are held in the college premises.

- The college has taken up the responsibility of imparting necessary, effective and practical education to the students so that they can reach great heights and attain maximum achievements in their life

- The college has a significant presence in the field of research. A number of major & minor research projects are awarded to the faculty members by the UGC and other bodies
- The college has established an Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) to assure the quality of the college and also details regarding submission of Annual Quality Assurance Reports (AQAR) to NAAC annually
- The college has a large playground with well-equipment for different sports like Cricket, Football, Volleyball, Hockey, Badminton and so on
- A medical facility has been available in the college for the benefit of the students
- State Government and Central Government offers a number of scholarships to the meritorious students and the students belonging to SC / ST / OBC
- The institution has provided ICT facilities like computers, projectors, audio-visual gadgets, scanners and printers to the departments and also other aids and a huge number of availability of books for effective delivery of curriculum and for inculcating the knowledge of the subject
- A special complaint cell (Sexual Harassment Cell) has been formed for the female students in the college. Students can directly complain orally or by written application to the head of the cell. Apart from this, Ragging is strictly prohibited on the college campus
- To sharpen the skill of students and their personality development, various curricular and extra-curricular activities are the regular features of the institution
- The college also provides NCC training to its students. The NCC cadets attend different camps and earn pride for themselves and for the college
- The college Unit NSS Wing performs different type of social services within and outside of the area
- The college also organizes workshops, seminars, and conferences for improving teaching skills and methodology
- The college consists Women Cell to help female students. This cell helps and guides girls to sort out from their personal problem and avoid them from any harassment
