Government Arts College, Karur was established in 1966.

The college is an autonomous and is affiliated to Bharathidasan University, Tiruchirappalli.

The college has been awarded with B+ status by NAAC.

It has worked its way ahead of other colleges in the matter of offering higher education of remarkable quality and largely to middle and lower income groups.
