Gobardanga Hindu College (GHC), North 24 Parganas was established in 1947. It is a Govt. Sponsored co-educational Degree College affiliated to the West Bengal State University.
Gobardanga Hindu College, a Govt. Sponsored co-educational Degree College affiliated to the West Bengal State University, Barasat, North 24Pgs. Established in 1947, on the 27th day of November, the college has moved through diverse terrains of history, politics and culture. A number of eminent, inspired and energetic academicians moved from Daulatpur College (located in the Khulna district of present Bangladesh and once a part of the Jessore district of undivided Bengal) to Gobardanga with the promise of spreading the light of knowledge therein. The Mukherjees of Gobardanga- the wealthy landlords donated part of the land on which the college stands today.
Though there were only a few subjects taught in the initial phase of the college, today classes are held in about 23 subjects in Arts/Humanities, Science and Commerce streams. The departments of Bengali, Education and History have already introduced post-graduation courses in their respective subjects. A large number of students are therefore being benefitted. Gobardanga Hindu College is one of those few colleges to have an adjoining B.Ed section in its vast campus in the district.
College was awarded an “A” grade by NAAC in 2005 & 2016. The Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt. of India, has selected a handful of academic institutions to receive funds under RUSA scheme, of which our college is a proud recipient.
The college got Grade ‘A’ accreditation from National Accreditation Committee (NAAC) of University Grant Commission of India. The college provides undergraduate courses in arts, science and commerce.
The curriculum is designed by the Boards of Studies of Calcutta University. The college has state-of-the-art technologies and infrastructure. Calcutta University is the oldest of the modern universities in India.
It was established in 1857 during the administration of Lord Canning, the Governor General of India. It is the only university in India which produced four Nobel laureates and has ranked consistently amongst the first five hundred universities in the world. It was the first modern university in the Indian subcontinent.
It has been declared as a "Five Star University" and a "Centre with Potential for Excellence" by the University Grants Commission (UGC).
The Times Education Supplement of London ranked the University of Calcutta as the 39th best university in the world, in the Arts & Humanities category in 2005. The main campus of the university is located at College Street in Kolkata while and several other campuses are spread over the metro and its suburbs.
