Government First Grade College, Kalasa (Chikkamagaluru Dist.) was also known as GFGC, Kalasa was established in 2007 by the Government of Karnataka.

It is one of the premier government co-educational colleges established to impart & provide in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone in the part of progress.

The college is affiliated to Kuvempu University, Shivamogga and recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) Act, 1956.
 
It is accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "B" Grade - (CGPA Score 2.02 on a 4 Point Scale in 1st Cycle) on 25th May 2016.

Since its inception, the college was started with only a bunch of students with a dynamism to create history.

It caters to two graduation courses viz., B.A. and B. Com with a student strength of 270. It started in one of the portions of a church building in the center of the village but presently has an independent, imposing structure, in the outskirts of the village with12 classrooms.

Most of the students are first-generation learners which impose strong challenges to the institution in comparison with its other counterparts.

At present, the college also offers three years undergraduate courses in management streams Kuvempu University, Shivamogga.

The institution has set high ideals for itself with a vision to provide an inclusive and holistic education. Stretched about a decade from now, it cherishes the dream of evolving into an academic giant in this region with PG and Research Centers catering to diverse disciplines with thousands of students nurturing their aspirations in the campus.
