Government College of Teacher Education, Kozhikode was established in June 1950 and run by State Govt. of Kerala.
It is one of the premier colleges established to impart & provide in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone on the part of progress.
The college is affiliated with University of Calicut, Malappuram and it is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) in June 1950 under Act, 1956.
It is also recognized and approved by National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE), Bengaluru & Govt. of Kerala to offers B.Ed. & M.Ed. courses.
It is re-accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "A" Grade (in 2nd Cycle) on 11th July 2016.
The main aim of the college is determined to provide the quality education to the future teachers. With the correct mix of technology and human touch, the college empowers the aspiring teachers to propagate education through the rungs of the society so that they serve the nation while making a satisfying career for themselves.
It is a co-educational government Institute, providing a regular course in which is located in the urban part of Kozhikode played a pioneering role in the field of higher education.
The Government College of Teacher Education, Kozhikode was formerly known as Government Training College was started in June 1950, with a view to impart teacher training at the secondary level.
The college functioned in the premises of Govt. Victoria College, Palakkad with its affiliation to the University of Madras, Madras for the reorganized BT course until June 1957.
As part of the reorganization of the States in July 1957, the college got affiliated to the University of Kerala, Thiruvananthapuram for the BT course. From the year 1959 onwards, the degree offered became B.Ed instead of B.T.
The Institution was upgraded and renamed as ‘College of Teacher Education’ by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India and was officially inaugurated by the Honorable Minister for Education, Kerala on 29th August 1992.
The college also received the many achievements awards in the field of Teacher Training at University of Calicut, Malappuram.
The college offers two years Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) course for those who have completed their graduation with minimum aggregate of 50% from any recognized university are eligible to apply for this course.
Students here are admitted who completed their graduation from the recognized university with at least 50% marks in major or in aggregate at the Degree level. But Scheduled Castes (S.C.), Scheduled Tribes (S.T.) & (O.B.C) candidates are to be entitled to a relaxation 5% marks ineligibility for admission.
The college offers two years Master of Education (M.Ed.) course for those who have completed their Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) with the minimum aggregate of 50% from any recognized university are eligible to apply for this course.
Students here are admitted who completed their graduation in Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) from the recognized university with at least 50% marks in major or in aggregate at the graduation level.
