About Gokhale Centenary College, Ankola

Gokhale Centenary College, Ankola (Dist. Uttara Kannada) was also known as G.C. College, Ankola was established on 1st June 1966 under the management of Kanara Welfare Trust (R).

It is one of the premier Government aided colleges established to impart & provide in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone in the part of progress.

The college is affiliated to Karnatak University, Dharwad and recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) on 1st January 1967 & 12(B) 1st January 1968 under Act, 1956.

It is re-accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "B++" Grade - (CGPA Score 2.85 on a 4 Point Scale in 3rd Cycle) on 2nd May 2017.

The college is located beside the National Highway (N.H. 66 connecting Kochi and Panvel) in Vandige village of Ankola taluk. Surrounded by the Arabian Sea on one side and the evergreen Western Ghats (the Sahyadri range) on the other, the college stands amid great scenic beauty covered with coconut and mango grooves.

It is the flagship Institution of Kanara Welfare Trust established in the memory of the great national leader Gopal Krishna Gokhale by his disciple Dr. Dinkar Desai, a member of Servants of India Society, Member of Parliament, social reformer, visionary and statesman.

The college has served the cause of education in this hilly, tribal, and largely backward region for the last three and half decades and more.

The college offers three years undergraduate courses in Arts, Science, & Commerce streams under Karnatak University, Dharwad.

The also college offers post graduate degree (M.A in History and M.A. in Kannada) conducted by the Distance Education Department of Kannada University, Hampi, external UG and PG courses of Karnatak University, Dharwad.

Besides these, the college conducts add-on courses like beautician and cosmetology and web-designing, yoga courses, self-defense (Karate) course for girl students in addition to the PG course in General Chemistry which has been started from the academic year 2016-2017.

The college has taken up the responsibility of imparting necessary, effective and practical education to the students so that they can reach great heights and attain maximum achievements in their life
The college has established an Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) on 15th June 2004 to assure the quality of the college and also details regarding submission of Annual Quality Assurance Reports (AQAR) to NAAC annually
The college runs a canteen inside the campus where staff and students can have meals and snacks prepared in a hygienic manner and at an affordable cost
Internet & Wi-Fi facilities may be availed by the students and teachers as per their needs
Transportation facility is available for the students
The college has a large playground with will-equipment for different sports like Cricket, Football, Volleyball, Hockey, Badminton and so on
A medical facility has been available in the college for the benefit of the students
State Government and Central Government offers a number of scholarships to the meritorious students and the students belonging to SC / ST / OBC
A special complaint cell (Sexual Harassment Cell) has been formed for the female students in the college. Students can directly complain orally or by written application to the head of the cell. Apart from this, Ragging is strictly prohibited on the college campus
To sharpen the skill of students and their personality development, various curricular and extra-curricular activities are the regular features of the institution
The college also organizes workshops, seminars, and conferences for improving teaching skills and methodology
The college also provides NCC training to its students. The NCC cadets attend different camps and earn pride for themselves and for the college
The college Unit NSS Wing performs different type of social services within and outside of the area
The college consists Women Cell to help female students. This cell helps and guides girls to sort out from their personal problem and avoid them from any harassment
Special remedial classes are organized for the academically poor students, the economically vulnerable but meritorious students are provided free admission and other in-house scholarships
