Food Craft Institute, Kottayam was established in 1985.

It is sponsored by the Government of India and Government of Kerala, to train promising, men and women for the Catering Industry.

At present the Institutes offer Certificate course have been designed with a stress on practical training. A variety of teaching and learning techniques are employed to impart knowledge and skills to students at Food craft Institute, Kottayam in its various departments.

The training imparted at these institutes will fully equip the trainees, to take a position of responsibility in the various branches of the industry.

There are, in this country, a number of luxury hotels and many medium catering establishments, snack bars, restaurants, ice-cream bars, coffee bar stand other forms of institutional food services. With urbanization and industrialization, catering establishments are increasing in large numbers.

The development of adequate feeding the large and increasing number of workers engaged in the industrial production pose a special challenge of considerable importance. Apart from these, an urgent need to provide better and more nutritive meals on large scale in hospitals, catering establishments attached to railways, shipping lines, Government offices etc.
