Dr. Vaishampayan Memorial Government Medical College (VMGMC), Solapur was established in the year 1963.

This college is affiliated to Nashik University of Health Sciences.

The city of Solapur has been a well known textile centre since the "British Raj" days. The majority of population was and still is from working class.

However the city also has a great name and tradition in Medical facilities. Since the last fifty years the neighboring township from Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh have been coming to Solapur for medical treatment. Initially a private institution, this college was taken over by the Government of Maharashtra in 1974. At present the college has state-of-the-art facilities for undergraduate as well as postgraduate medical education.

The college was affiliated to Shivaji University, Kolhapur for all the courses offered by VMGMC. Now the undergraduate courses are affiliated to Maharashtra University of Health Sciences, Nashik and the postgraduate courses to Shivaji University, Kolhapur.

Over the years the institute has produced many well known and talented medical graduates who are settled all over the world. Today they are bringing good name and glory to their mother institute. In the last fourty years of its existence the institute has developed in all the frontier areas.

Added latest technology and instruments for the patient care and teaching purposes. The variety of cases is also amazing that even the teachers of capital cities are attracted during academic sessions to visit, learn and contribute. We are proud of our staff, students and the institute.
