Dr. Meghnad Saha College, Itahar was established in 2000.

The college was previous affiliated to the University of North Bengal but from last year it is affiliated to the newly formed University of Gour Banga, Malda and recognised by UGC u/s 2(f) & 12(B). It was named after the venerable scientist Dr.Meghnad Saha, who overcame all barriers of poverty. The college is a symbol of inspiration and adoration for the resourceful yet poor people of the region.

The college was initially started functioning with general courses in the humanities stream but within a few years (07) honours subjects were also introduced. The college promotes education coupled with a keen social concern.

Dr. Meghnad Saha College Library was initiated along with the establishment of the college in the year 2000. It is presently having collection of more than 10000 books on different subjects that are science, arts and humanities. Our library is located on 2nd floor of main building. The library is well ventilated, lighted and aired to facilitate comfortable seating. Library follows open access system and the books are well stacked. Library Membership is offered to the current students and staffs of the college. Our Library has separate seating reading room for students & staffs with CCTV coverage. An average number of 40 students visit the library per day. Data entry work of bibliographic record on SOUL 2.0 library management software is going on.

All students, faculty members & employees of our college are eligible for membership of the library. Library provides library card for students for book lending purpose. Library also provides previous year Question Papers and Syllabus of all subjects. Library Purchases two daily news papers, out of which one in English and one Bengali. Moreover Karmasangsthan- an employment news paper in Bengali is also purchased for students.

Very recently, attempts have been made to computerize the library to provide better service to the students and teachers.

• To build up the moral character of the students, and to make a student efficient to earn his livelihood by equipping them with relevant knowledge, competence and skills.
