Dr. Gour Mohan Roy College, Monteswar was established in 1986. Its affiliated to University of Burdwan.

It was started to promote the higher education in this region. This is a Private Aided College and approved by UGC in 1994.

The aim of the college is to provide ideal environment to develop mental, Physical, social and spiritual level of students. The curriculum is designed by the Boards of Studies of Burdwan University.

The college offers under graduate courses in Arts, Commerce and Science stream. The college is well equipped with all modern facilities. The College comes under the University of Burdwan in 1989. This University was started in 1960 with Sukumar Sen as its first Vice-chancellor.

It occupies an exalted place amongst the universities of West Bengal. It has been awarded with 4 star status by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) to acknowledge the contribution of Burdwan University in the educational development of the state.
