Dr. G.U. Pope College of Education, Sawyerpuram was established in 2005. 

The College is now affiliated to the Tamil Nadu Teacher Education University, Chennai.

• Their aim was to make Sawyerpuram a kind of university, surpassing anything of the kind that was to be found at that time in the Madras Presidency.
• The ‘Seminary’ was their laboratory where he experimented with and perfected his teaching techniques. 
• The College is a self financing, co-educational institution with an intake of 100 students.
• The motto of Dr. G.U. Pope College of Education is “Be the first be with the first”.
• The College aims at excellence in education and gives training in all round development of the trainees.
