Dr. B. R. Ambedkar  Satabarshiki Mahavidyalaya(DBRASM), North 24 Parganas was established in 1857.

To  provide higher quality education and excels in areas pertaining to their all round development and up gradation of society at large. Its aim is to cater the needs of the rural youths of Bengal.

The college is a co-educational college situated at Helencha of 24-Parganas North district of Bengal. The curriculum is designed by the Boards of Studies of Calcutta University. The college offers under graduate courses in Arts stream. The college is affiliated to the Calcutta University. It is the oldest of the modern universities in India.

It was established in 1857 during the administration of Lord Canning, the Governor General of India. It is the only university in India which produced four Nobel laureates and has ranked consistently amongst the first five hundred universities in the world.

It was the first modern university in the Indian subcontinent. It has been declared as a "Five Star University" and a "Centre with Potential for Excellence" by the University Grants Commission (UGC).

The Times Education Supplement of London ranked the University of Calcutta as the 39th best university in the world, in the Arts & Humanities category in 2005. 

VISION

Our college is situated in Helencha, about twenty km away from Bongaon Sub-divisional town, which is actually adjacent to Indo-Bangladesh Border. After partition of India in 1947, a large number of refugees were settled in Helencha-Bagdah area. This area is mostly inhabited by socially and economically backward classes, i.e. Schedule Caste, Schedule Tribe and Other Backward classes. In 2005 when the College was established, local people decided to name the College after the Father of Indian Constitution Dr. B. R. Ambedkar who tirelessly devoted his entire life for the empowerment of socially and economically backward classes of India.

Dr. B. R. Ambedkar laid emphasis on education to ameliorate the conditions of the Dalits. To enshrine the ideology of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar on education, our vision is “to develop an original student who should be able to weigh evidence to follow and criticize argument and put his own value on authorities”.

Most of our students belong from SC, ST and OBC and many of them are first generation learners. Therefore it is our prime objective to enlighten them and offer them a firm foothold in the Society. This institution aims to inculcate ethical and moral values among the students and encourages them to become capable of handling their careers and lives effectively. Our highly qualified faculties and energetic staff are committed to our mission so that our students can break the narrow barrier of social prejudice and feels truly empowered.
