About Doomdooma College

Doomdooma College, Tinsukia was established on 1st July, 1967. It is one of the premier institution of higher education in the region of Tinsukia, Assam.

The college is affiliated to Dibrugarh University, Dibrugarh and recognized by University Grant Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) and 12B of UGC Act. It is accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council with "B" Grade.

The college has a beautiful campus which is located by the side of NH 37 at a distance of about 3 Kms from Doomdooma town. Located in the midst of pristine nature the sprawling campus of approximately 60 Bighas of land has adequate academic infrastructure and Hostels, a large playground, a botanical garden, a model tea-garden, spacious cycle-cum-car stands along with much open space inside it.

The college was established through the pioneering efforts of a team of visionaries led by the Late Jogendra Nath Deka.

Since its inception the college has held the prie of place in disseminating knowledge and skills to the learners of this area, which comprises of different ethnic groups including the tea tribes.

The college presently has an enrollement of over 2165 students from this culturally vibrant area. With increasing student enrollement and the rising interest in our undergraduate programmes coupled with the emerging global trends towards market-driven educational system, the college has introduced various professional courses like Motor driving, knitting-cutting & Embroidery, spoken English courses , various certificate courses in computer science along with traditional degree courses & career oriented courses sponsored by UGC.

The college has sophisticated infrastructure with a magnificent science laboratory, a big digitized library with more than 22,500 books apart from magazines, newspaper and some national and international journals. Through N-list programme the College can search more than 100 national and international journals to carry out the research activities by the faculty members.

The college offers two years Higher Secondary Courses in Arts, Science & Commerce stream under Assam Higher Secondary Educational Council (AHSEC), Guwahati and three years Degree Courses in Arts, Science & Commerce stream under Gauhati University, Guwahati.

The college also has a Contact Centre of Institute of Distance and Open Learning (IDOL), Gauhati University for PG courses.

Besides this, the College is running a Study Centre of Krishna Kanta Handiqui State Open University (KKHSOPU), Guwahati.

To achieve this objective, the college offers diverse programmes of the Universities, Career Oriented Programmes and Co-curricular activities with sophisticated infrastructure and competent faculty

Rules & Regulations at Doomdooma College, Tinsukia:

  • Students are expected to maintain a high standard of discipline. They are subject to rules and regulations of the college and hostels.
  • students admitted to the college must abide by all rules and regulations as per prescribed by the college authorities. Violation of rules, unsatisfactory progress, irregular attendance, irregular clearance of college and hostel fees, showing discourtesy to the teacher and staff members in any form, adoption of unfair means during examination etc. are of the offences which may make the students liable for disciplinary action like termination of scholarship, non-awards of college diploma, forced transfer and even expulsion from the college and hostel.
  • All forms of ragging inside the hostel and college campuses are strictly prohibited. Any student involved in ragging is liable for punishment to the extent of expulsion. Students are advised to bring cases of ragging to the notice of the Principal/ Vice-Principal / Anti Ragging and Disciplinary Action Committee.
  • Using Mobile Phone within the college premises by the students is strictly prohibited.
  • Every student must come to the library with college uniform.
  • If books borrowed from the library are lost, torn or defaced in any form, the value  of the book will have paid by the borrower as per Library rules.
  • Students must follow the rules notified at the main entrance of the college.

 

  • The college has an attractive campus situated in secured and serene atmosphere suitable for learning with Young, dynamic faculty and non-teaching staff
  • The college has well-equipped with all modern facilites like classrooms, library, laboratories, hostel, computer centre etc.
  • The college has an excellent computerized library with numerous text books, latest reference books, a good number of journals and periodicals of state level, national and international status. The library has well-furnished, spacious reading rooms for students as well as for faculty members. E-Books and E-Journals can be accessed through the INFLIBNETN-LIST programme
  • The college has a Book Bank in the College Library which is available for meritorious and economically backward students
  • The college has its own very well equipped, two storied science laboratory for conducting in Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology practical
  • Internet browsing facility is available for students and faculty members during college hours at the Network Resource Centre
  • The college arranges remedial coaching every year for the students of ST/SC/OBC/MOBC/Minorities/Economically Backward categories
  • The college has a well planned play ground within the campus for holding football matches, athletic events, cricket and other outdoor sports and tournaments
  • The Historical and Cultural Museum maintained by the Department of History has a rare collection of different specimens of art, architecture etc. collected from various ethnic groups of the surrounding area. The Museum provides immense educative value for the students of the college
  • Doomdooma College has a big spacious auditorium named Kallol with sufficient space, lighting arrangement and a well equipped dais.
  • The college has a well-furnished canteen which provides healthy refreshments to the students as well as to the teaching and non-teaching staff during college hours at reasonable rates
  • The Doomdooma College Botanical Garden has many specimens of medicinal, fruit plants and a wide variety of herbs and trees
  • The Women’s’ Cell of Doomdooma College woks for empowering women in socio-economically backward and illiterate sections of the society through organizing meetings, seminars, awareness programmes etc.
  • There is a health service cell in the college which conducts health service programmes like AIDS Awareness, Blood Donation Camp, and Hepatitis-B Vaccination Camp etc. for the staff and the students with the help of NGOs and Government Agencies.
  • The college has a separate building for Equal Opportunity Centre. The centre provides equal opportunities to the SC, ST, OBC, MOBC, TGL & Minority Community students (both boys and girls) in various activities for their all round development. The centre organizes different programmes like Seminars, Workshop, Career Oriented Courses, and Skill Based Programmes to enhance their potentialities.
  • The college has established an Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) to assure the quality of the college
  • The State Government and the Central Government offers a number of scholarships to the meritorious students and the students belonging to SC / ST / OBC
  • The Committee against Sexual Harassment works for the promotions of gender parity by organizing gender sensitization programmes for the students, conducting State/National level workshops and encouraging students to report any offence of such nature immediately
  • The union also publishes a magazine named “DOOMDOOMA COLLEGE MAGAZINE” annually, providing opportunities for development of literary talents of the students.
  • College has a Parents Teachers Association. The college has periodically organized meeting of the PTA where the academic and other activities of the students are discussed.
  • The National Service Scheme unit of the college extends its service to the society by organizing literacy campaigns, repairing roads, cleaning the campus, organizing tree plantation drives, blood donation camps etc.
