Shri Shivaji Education Society, Amravati's Dhanwate National College, Nagpur was commonly known as Dhanwate National College (DNC) was established in 1935 and managed by Shri Shivaji Education Society of Amravati in 1932.
It is one of the oldest general degree college in Nagpur, established to impart & provide in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone in the part of progress.
The college is affiliated to Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University, Nagpur and it is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) under Act, 1956.
It is re-accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "A" Grade (CGPA Score 3.25 on a 4 Point Scale in 2nd Cycle) on 5th May 2014.
It was started at Wardha in 1935 as Wasudeo Arts College and later shifted to Nagpur in 1942 renamed as National College. Shri Shivaji Education Society, Amravati, took over the management of this college in 1949. In the year 1951, Late Shrimant Dadasaheb Dhanwate donated generously to the society after which it was once again renamed as Dhanwate National College.

The Institute has an independent research center which fosters individual research through a research-based learning environment, the interdisciplinary research activities and students’ participation in research have helped in fostering the research aptitude in them.

The college conferred the status of grant-in-aid college that the fees and all the facilities for the students are fixed by the government.
The student's admission is done as per the Admission Criteria prescribed by the affiliating university.
The college was also recognized & conferred the status as “College with Potential for Excellence (CPE)" by the University Grants Commission, New Delhi.
The college has been recently granted recognition as the "Centre of Higher Learning and Research" by Rashtrasant Tukdoji Maharaj Nagpur University, Nagpur for registration of Ph.D. scholars in Commerce, Management, Marathi, English, Economics, Sociology, and Geography.
The college offers conventional UG, PG, & Doctorate courses in Science, Arts, Commerce, & Management streams with various specializations. Besides these, several need-based Certificate and Diploma courses are offered to students.
Apart from these, the college also has a Contact Centre of Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), New Delhi & Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University (YCMOU), Nashik to offer UG, PG Courses & Certificate courses through distance mode.
