District Institute of Education & Training (DIET), Kozhikode was established in 1991 and managed by National Policy on Education (NPE) which was established in 1986.
It is one of the premier institutes established to impart & provide in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone on the part of progress.
It is affiliated with University of Calicut, Malappuram.
The main aim of the institute is determined to provide the quality education to the future teachers. With the correct mix of technology and human touch, the college empowers the aspiring teachers to propagate education through the rungs of the society so that they serve the nation while making a satisfying career for themselves.
It is a co-educational government Institute, provided a distance mode course in which is located in the urban part of Kozhikode played a pioneering role in the field of higher education.
NPE suggested strengthening the two dimensions our teacher education: Pre-Service and In-service-area of our nation. As part of it, District Institute of Education and Training (DIET) were established across the nation.
Department of Ed. Kerala established 14 DIETS in three phased manners. Three DIETS (Trichur, Kasaragod, and Wyand) came into existence in 1989.
The second phase was in 1991 with the establishment of 4 DIETS which were at Kannur, Kozhikode, Pathanamthitta, and Ernakulam. The rest of the DIETS (7 DIETS) also were established in 1992. There are 500 DIETs in India.
DIET has undertaken the activities of SSA, District Panchayath, and State Level Agencies like SCERT, SIEMAT, IMG, Pareeksha Bhavan etc. Compared to the other DIETs in the state, DIET Kozhikode stood in the forefront ineffectively spending the allocations.
The DIET humbly accepts the invaluable comments made by the UNICEF team who had visited our institute last year.
The institute also received the many achievements awards in the field of Teacher Training under University of Calicut, Malappuram.
The institute offers two years Diploma in Education (D.Ed.) course for those who have completed their intermediate with the minimum aggregate of 50% from any recognized college/university under affiliated with State Council of Education Research and Training (SCERT), Thiruvananthapuram.
Students here are admitted who completed their intermediate from recognized college/university with at least 50% marks in major or in aggregate at the intermediate level. But Scheduled Castes (S.C.), Scheduled Tribes (S.T.) & (O.B.C) candidates are to be entitled to a relaxation 5% marks ineligibility for admission.
DIET is also the authority to conduct educational research and studies at the district level also it is the responsibility of DIET to develop materials for teachers and students based on the new pedagogy.
