Dhing College, Nagaon was established in 1965 as the premier seat of higher education and as a fulfilment of the long-cherished dream of the public of the North-Western part of the undivided Nagaon District of Assam, India.

The college is affialted to affiliated to Gauhati University, Guwahati & recognized by University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f). It is accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "C++" Grade.

Brief History:

The hard-working people of the area, mainly agriculturists and small tradesmen, founded a great number of Primary, Middle, High and Higher Secondary schools in their villages by their own efforts. Dhing College symbolized the culmination of their aspiration for higher education. Since then hundreds of young men and women of this area have earned their first degree from this college.

The portals of higher education in this area was opened by Dhing College. We have gratefully remember that great galaxy of far-sighted and high-minded persons whose ceaseless efforts resulted in the creation of this noble institution. Nobody can forget the spirit of sacrifice and missionary zeal of the Founder-Teachers and office staff of the College.
 
The college came under deficit system of grants-in-aid in 1975. The Science section was started in 1987 and it was brought under deficit system of grants-in-aid in 1998.

Dhing College is the only Degree College with double streams of Arts and Science in the aforesaid area with a radius of 30 kms. Apparently the objective of the college has been to impart first degree education in Humanities and Science and qualify the students for the first degree.

The college also aims at continual extension of the first degree education by including besides the traditional subjects, other relevant and modern subjects permitted by the affiliating University of Gauhati and the UGC.

The college also has been involving itself in extension activities aiming at social education and social welfare.

The college already has started vocational courses permitted by the University and the UGC. The core and over-riding objective of the college is to make the college an ever-growing and ever-illuminating Centre of higher education and radiate the knowledge through the length and breath of the vast locality. Preparing the students for responsible citizenship and making them eligible for the challenges of modern civilization is an implicit objective of the college.

The college is a great store house of learning, a great bureau of standards, a great workshop of knowledge, a great laboratory for research and experiments in specific field of knowledge and thought. All academic efforts of a true college are aimed at building full man and women fit for all fields of action. The college is thus the instrument of the State, for the conservation of Knowledge, for the discovery of Knowledge, for the distribution of Knowledge and above all for the creation of Knowledge makers
 
Since then hundreds of young men and women of this area have earned their first degree from this college. Formerly women graduates were a rarity. Now their number has multiplied to uncountable proportion. The portals of higher education in this area was opened by Dhing College.We have gratefully remember that great galaxy of far-sighted and high-minded persons whose ceaseless efforts resulted in the creation of this noble institution. The college offers two years Higher Secondary Course in Arts & Science under Assam Higher Secondary Educational Council (AHSEC), Guwahati and three years Degree Courses in Arts & Science under Gauhati University, Guwahati.
