About Dhakuakhana College

Dhakuakhana College in the District of Lakhimpur, Assam was established on 25th July, 1966 by way of public donations to facilitate higher education and to promote literary and cultural activities in an economically disadvantaged region.

The college is affiliated to the Dibrugarh University, Dibrugarh and recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under sections 2(f) and 12(B). It is accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council with "C++" Grade in 2004.

Brief History:

The History of the college is a reflection of keen and earnest desire of the people of Dhakuakhana where most of the inhabitants are belonging to the underprivileged sections of the society viz. the Scheduled Tribes, Scheduled Castes and Other backward classes.

The college was taken under Deficit system of grants-in-aid in 1975 and brought under the provincialised system by the Government of Assam in December 2005. It offers undergraduate courses in Science and Humanities having sixteen teaching departments. It also runs a Bio-Tech Hub and a study centre under the Krishna Kanta Handique State Open University(KKHSOU), Guwahati.

The permanent faculty strength of the college is forty nine and that of non teaching staff is twenty four.The present students' enrollment is more than one thousand (including H.S Classes). It has a huge pool of bright alumni that includes a good numbers of university rank holders; quite a few of them occupying prominent position in public life.

The 14.95 acre big campus is having the requisite infrastructures- the administrative building, well equipped Library and classrooms, laboratories, playground, Boys and Girls Hostel, the canteen and other basic amenities. The Institution believes in establishing new courses to equip students in the changing scenario and to meet the need of the local society .

The college organizes various community reach out programs through its NSS Unit and other forums, collaborates NGOs and civic forums.

It aims to introduce courses on entrepreneurship development and looking forward to partner with the industry and other entrepreneurs. The college is all set to celebrate its Golden Jubilee Year that starts on 25th July, 2015. Fifty numbers of multifaceted programs will be organized to mark the occasion.

The college offers three years Degree Courses in Arts & Science streams under Dibrugarh University, Dibrugarh and also the college offers Certificate courses.

  • The college has an attractive campus situated in secured and serene atmosphere suitable for learning with Young, dynamic faculty and non-teaching staff
  • Every Department has adequate number of classrooms in order to accommodate the students comfortably in the classes
  • The college has well-equipped with all modern facilites like classrooms, library, laboratories, computer lab with internet facilities etc.
  • The college has a library with a good number of books (both text and reference) on various subjects to meet the needs of the students as well as the teachers. Daily
  • Newspapers and selected journals are also regularly subscribed
  • The college has established an Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) to assure the quality of the college
  • The State Government and the Central Government offers a number of scholarships to the meritorious students and the students belonging to SC / ST / OBC
  • Internet facilities can be availed by the students and teachers as per their needs
  • The college arranges remedial classes for slow learners and poor performers. It runs UGC sponsored remedial coaching for SC, ST, OBC and minority students.  The College has a National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit Since 1982, providing students a great number of opportunities. The objective of NSS is personality development through community service. Following are some information regarding NSS
  • College Magazine is published by the Students Union annually. All the departments and the hostels have their wall magazines
  • The college arranges educational tours and field trips for exposure of its students to other learning environment and establishment outside the 
  • campus. Efforts are made for value orientation, gender sensitization and leadership growth through diverse in and outdoor activities
