Devi Charan Baruah (D.C.B.) Girls College, Jorhat was established in 1955. During its 50 years of existence, it is established as one of the premier & frist women degree college in Upper Assam.

The college is affialted to Assam Higher Secondary Educational Council (AHSEC), Guwahati for two years Higher Secondary Courses and for three years degree courses college is affiliated to Dibrugarh University, Dibrugarh.

The college is recognized by University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2F & accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "A" Grade.  

The college offers two years Higher Secondary Course in Arts & Science under Assam Higher Secondary Educational Council (AHSEC), Guwahati and three years Degree Courses in Arts & Science under Dibrugarh University, Dibrugarh and also the college offers the following mandatory U.G.C. recommended and Dibrugarh University, Dibrugarh approved one year Certificate courses for the present Degree Final Year Students.

History:

Since its inception it has been striving sincerely to spread women's education in Assam. Established with the generous contributions of four illustrious sons of Late Rai Bahadur Devicharan Baruah viz, Heramba Prasad Barua, Umacharan Barua, Deba Prasad Barua and Bishnu Prasad Barua, with an enrollment of only 56 students and 12 teachers the college has now fully blossomed with an enrolment of about 1800 students in both Arts and Science faculty.

Over the years the college has produced many illustrious Women personalities including educationists, academicians, lawyers, politicians, literati, social activists and the like.

The college is well known for its N.C.C. and N.S.S. wings. The N.C.C. cadets have brought laurel to the college by their excellent perform­ances in various activities like mountaineering, shooting, participation in the Republic Day parade and representing the country in the abroad.

The students of the college have performed excellently in various examinations. The college, to its credit, has also produced the Best Graduates of Dibrugarh University in the Science Faculty during 2005-2006.

The percentage of success is always higher than that of the Council and the University. The students have shown enthusiasm in various extra-curricular activi­ties including participation at national level. The girls have shaped themselves with a sense of marked discipline to meet the challenges of their future.

The real strength of D.C.B. Girls College lies in its highly qualified teachers and very diligent office staff who are trying their best to make this institution a centre of excellence.

The college has successfully organised a few National and state level Seminars and workshops for the benefit of the teachers and students.

• To provide higher education to the women folk of Jorhat and its rural neighbourhood by inculcating their innate talents and qualities and unfolding their potentialities through curricular and extra-curricular activities

Rules & Regulations at Devi Charan Baruah (D.C.B.) Girls College, Jorhat:

• Ragging is strictly banned inside the college premises. Any student found involved in ny form of ragging will be expelled from the college
• The College Anti-ragging Committee takes action as and when required
• It is the duty of the students to keep the campus and classrooms clean. Any damage to and disfiguring of the college property will be liable for punishment
• Students are expected to maintain decency. They must not loiter outside the campus during the class hours but to spend their off periods in the student’s common room or in the library reading room
• 80% attendance is compulsory. Classes are held from 9-00 am to 3-45 pm Students attending lectures less than 80% but above 70% are sent up for the examinations as institutional private candidates (non-collegiate). Students attending less than 70% of the lectures delivered will be discollegiated.

  Regular career counselling is provided to H.S. Final Year and Degree 3rd year students. Non-collegiate fine, wherever applicable, have to be paid separately for each subject fixed by college authority

• It is compulsory for the students to come with the college uniform in the college hours
• Students must keep the identity cards with them within and outside the college campus at all times
• Compulsory internal assesment will be held in every paper for marks exceeding 60 for each paper
• It is compulsory to appear in the examinations conducted by the college. Bi-Monthly unit test is conducted to observe the progress of the students
• Boarders of the Hostel will be required to strictly abide by all the rules of the Hostel. Violators are penalised
• Students have to participate in extension activities and social services organised by the college from time to time
• Use of mobile phones by students in the college campus is strictly prohibited
