Deshabandhu Mahavidyalaya was established in 1973. Its affiliated to University of Burdwan.

Deshabandhu Mahavidyalaya, Chittaranjan was founded on 3rd September, 1973 under the aegis of Chittaranjan Locomotive Works, Hindustan Cables Ltd, Rupnarayanpur and a group of philanthropists of the area,  it travelled a terrain of hard times and had landed, with the blessings of the Govt. of West Bengal, the U.G.C., the CLW, the HCL, the people of the locality and many other well wishers, to a plateau ultimately. Initially the college was affiliate of The University of Burdwan. Subsequently from the academic session 2015-16 the college has been affiliated to the newly established Kazi Nazrul University.

Deshabandhu Mahavidyalaya, Chittaranjan has a glorious history of imparting higher education. It offers honours and general courses in science, humanities, commerce and also professional courses.

Deshabandhu Mahavidyalaya was established with the specific objective to cater to the need of Higher Education of the locality.

This College has also the goal to develop healthy student - teacher relationship, to inculcate among students values that will help them live in harmony with the world at large and to help them become efficient members of the futuristic society.

This College also does not ignore the imperative to generate employment as well as helping students to bring their learning bear upon every day of existence.
