Derozio Memorial College, Kolkata was established in 1996. The college is affiliated to West Bengal State University. The college is accredited by NAAC and received UGC affiliation under section 2F and 12B of the UGC Act 1956.

The college has become the pinnacle of explorer's dream for the student’s community at large. The college, since its inception takes the students with a thirst for education on a memorable journey through a landscape ignited by morality towards becoming the true citizen of India.

Henry Louis Vivian Derozio (18 April 1809-26 December 1831) was a fiery Indian teacher and poet. In May 1826, at the age of 17, he was appointed a teacher in English Literature and History at the new Hindu College, which had been set up recently to meet the interest in English education among Indians. He interacted freely with students, well beyond the class hours and his zeal for interaction was legendary. He infused in his students the spirit of free expression, the yearning for knowledge and a passion for living up to their identity. His students came to be known as Derozians. Derozio contribution towards the upliftment of contemporary society is unforgettable.
