Department of Communication - Bangalore University, Bengaluru, is a is the constituent department of Bangalore University.
The Department of Communication was established in 1973 with the initiative taken by the then Vice-Chancellor of Bangalore University Dr. H. Narasimaiah.
The department is self-affiliated with the Bangalore University, Bengaluru and it is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) under Act, 1956.
The aim of the department is helping its members realize spiritual and moral as well as intellectual and aesthetic values also maintain its cosmopolitan and pluralistic tradition by enrolling young scholars from diverse communities and different social and economic backgrounds.
It is a co-educational department, providing a regular course in which is located in the urban part of Bengaluru played a pioneering role in the field of higher education.
The department conferred the status of grant-in-aid college that the fees and all the facilities for the students are fixed by the government.
The department had received many awards and accolades at a city, state and national level for their educational advancements also received the numbers of achievements awards in the field of sports and curricular activities under the affiliating university.
The Department of Media Studies offers undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Master of Arts (M.A.) in Media and Communication Studies. It also offers Ph.D. courses.
The department was encouraged by the UGC with the sanction of six posts of Readers to expand Six independent specialized branches of communication with the concept of establishing a School of Communication viz., Journalism, Satellite Communication, Communication Policy and Planning, Advertising and Public Relations, Rural Communication and Communication Research.
University examinations of different courses, examinations conducted by the affiliating University and various other examinations are held in the college premises.
The department has its own selection process unlike other colleges under the University.
The department has an online application process where prospective applicants are expected to fill in their interests and academic achievements.
Candidates who have passed the bachelor’s degree with 50 percent of marks in the aggregate of all the examinations of the degree in the optional subjects of Journalism shall be eligible for admission to Journalism candidates.
Applications are open for Choice Based Credit System for the first cum first courses.
