Dayanand Girls Post Graduate College, Kanpur was established in 1959. The College is affiliated to Chhatrapati Sahu Ji Maharaj Kanpur University.

In early fifties many families were hesitant to send their young daughters to co-educational colleges. So a girls section of D.A.V. College was started in 1952 in a small bungalow called Green House in Civil Lines with an enrolment of 20 students and 6 teachers to teach them. The numbers kept swelling and crossed 200 in 1959.

The College was then that efforts were made to seek  for this girl section as an independent college. Thus the first PG Women’s College of the town came into being in July 1959 with nine subjects of which only 4 were taught at PG level, 12 teachers, 2 librarians and 2 support staff. The College was a small, shaky beginning but with god’s grace and untiring efforts of their founder Principal Late Smt.

Indra Varma gradually new programmes and subjects were introduced. , approved by UGC and accredited by NAAC.

Dayanand Girls' P.G. College is the first Post-graduate college for women in Kanpur, affiliated to C.S.J.M. Univeristy, Kanpur. We bring together students from different cultural and religious backgrounds and offers rich and varied academic and vocational programmes. The institution strives to develop each student into a strong, integrated women and inspires each young person to be a responsible citizen, committed to the services of others and society,.

Dayanand Girls' Post-Graduate College is, a pioneer in the field of education for girls, dedicated to promoting leadership, economic independence and community feeling among its students. Dayanand College provides education to a large number of girls from all backgrounds and prepares them for further professional life. Dayanand Girl's P.G. College is promoted by the Dayanand Shiksha Sansthan, which is a nonprofit organization registered under the Indian Trust Act and managed by the Board of trustees, Dayanand Shiksha Sansthan.

The Dayanand Shiksha Sansthan with its Head Office in Kanpur represents a cluster of 20 educational establishments in U.P and Uttarakhand. Its trust and management society was established in 1892, in U.P, in memory of swami Dayanand Saraswati. The first college started as a night school in Meerut in 1904 and today in Kanpur alone about 8 Dayanand Institutions are running successfully. Dayanand Girl's P.G. College was established on 1st July, 1959 offering arts subjects only. The college has since added Science, Library science and B.Ed courses in its curriculum. The college offers P.G. level, U.G. Level and vocational courses.

The college aims to develop leadership skills in the students so that they can take charge of important social issues and contribute positively towards their solutions.
