Darrang College, Tezpur was established in 1945 by the people of Tezpur and started with 8 teachers and 112 students in the roll.

The college is affiliated to Gauhati University, Guwahati and recognized by University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2F. It is accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "B" Grade.

Brief History:

Late Kamakhya Prasad Tripathy, a veteran freedom fighter and trade union leader came forward to shoulder the responsibility of the founder principal. Initially classes were held at the bungalow of Arnaldo Duchi, an Italian man who sold the property to the college.

Subsequently, the college was shifted for nearly two years to the American Base Hospital campus at Mission Chariali, then to the dak bungalow in the heart of the town, and finally to the present site in October 1951.

Darrang College has had an eventful career since its inception. His Holiness the Dalai Lama of Tibet visited in 1959 after his historic flight from his own land, followed Smt. Indira Gandhi in 1963.

Ever since the college settled in its permanent site, it has been maintaining a high academic standard all through.

With the motto, Darrang College has been uninterruptedly working for fruitful dissemination of knowledge to their pupils with the solemn aim of making them resourceful citizens of the country.

The college has an adequate academic and physical infrastructure catering to the 25 subjects in the 10+2 and Under Graduate Classes.

The college offers two years Higher Secondary Course in Arts, Science & Commerce under Assam Higher Secondary Educational Council (AHSEC), Guwahati and three years Degree Courses in Arts, Science & Commerce under Gauhati University, Guwahati.

The college also has a Contact Centre of Institute of Distance and Open Learning (IDOL), Gauhati University for PG courses.
