Dakshin Kamrup College, Mirza was established in 1961. It is affiliated to Gauhati University, Guwahati and accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council with "B+" Grade.

Brief History:

Dakshin kamrup as the very name indicates is a vast area of Kamrup District stretching over hundred fifty miles along the southern bank of the mighty river Brahmaputra.

This country side has a rich cultural heritage, but its literary percentage is rather low. Palasbari, famous for Timber and Muga industry, is its prime trade center. But this place too has lost its old glory due to devastating erosion caused by the Brahmaputra.

The educationists, the social workers and the student community of this locality in particular along with the help and good will of other people of Dakshin Kamrup had long felt the need of spreading higher education in this area and their dream was fulfilled when this college came into existence in the year 1961.

During those days it was the only rural college in this vast area. Thus the college has fulfilled the long cherished hopes and aspirations of the people of Dakshin Kamrup.

The college offers three years degree courses in Science and Arts stream under the Gauhati University, Guwahati along with two years Higher Secondary Courses under Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC), Guwahati. Recently M.A. in Assamese has been introduced in the college. Besides this, the college is running a Study Centre of Krishna Kanta Handiqui State Open University (KKHSOPU), Guwahati where different courses like BA, BPP, BCA, BBA, MA etc. have been offered.

The College also has a Contact Centre of Institute of Distance and Open Learning (IDOL), Gauhati University for PG courses.
