D.A.V. College, Amritsar was established on 1st June 1955 in the sacred memory of Maharishi Dayanand Saraswati, along with the Vedic traditions to the youth of contemporary India.

It was managed by DAV College Managing Committee (DAVCMC) which was established in 1987 is the largest non-governmental organization in the field of education in India today.

It is one of the premier colleges established to impart & provide in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone in the part of progress.

The college is affiliated with Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar and it is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) on 1st January 1958 under Act, 1956.

It is re-accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "A" Grade (CGPA Score 3.20 on a 4 Point  Scale in 2nd Cycle) on 1st May 2015.

The main aim of the college was to set high academic standing and a reputation for excellence in research and teaching which is reflected in the demand for courses for high-achieving students, the relevance of graduates to the community in which they work, the quality of staff and their strong performance and commitment to research.

It is a co-educational self-financed private college, providing a regular course which is located in an urban part of an Amritsar played a pioneering role in the field of higher education.

The college was also proud to run full-fledged Evening Shift for undergraduate courses in humanities as well as various postgraduate diploma programs in the area of Computers, IT, Commerce and Management.

The college conferred the status of grant-in-aid college that the fees and all the facilities for the students are fixed by the government. The student's admission is done as per the Admission Criteria prescribed by the Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar.

This college has conferred as the status as "College with Potential for Excellence (CPE)" and the best college by their Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar. Also, the college has received numbers of an award in publication, offering scholarship also awarded by the different societies.

The college offers three years undergraduate courses in Bachelor of Arts, Science, Commerce, and Management streams with various specializations and offers years Bachelor of Design Multimedia course under Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar.

The college also offers two years postgraduate courses in Arts, Commerce, and Science streams with various specializations for the students. It offers Diploma, Self-Financed, and Certificate courses as well.
