College of Education, Guwahati was established on 20th August, 1987 in the premises of Kamrup Academy H.S. School through the untiring efforts of a few noted educationists and social activists.

It is located at Christianbasti, is a non-government teacher education institute offering B.Ed programme under Gauhati University, Guwahati.

The college is affiliated to Gauhati University, Guwahati and recognized by National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) vide order no. ERC/7-17/2001/518(1) dated 13th March 2001.

The contributions of Late Dandeswar Gogoi, an educationist and educational administrator, Late Ramananda Baruah, IAS (Retd.), Shri Bharat Saikia, a social activist, Prof. Upendra Nath Bora and many others marked the beginning of this college.

Late Dr. Gogoi was the Founder President of the Governing Body of the college and contributed to the growth of the college till his last days. Late Ramananda Baruah succeeded as the President after Late Dr. Gogoi. Shri Bharat Saikia was the Founder Secretary and has been offering his services for the growth of the college till date.

With a brilliant track record of academic performance and discipline, College of Education now stands as a front-line non-Government self-financing teacher education institute in Assam.

The college was set up with an objective of promoting quality education in the region and has well experinced teachers to enlighten the aspiring teachers.

Students here are admitted who completed there graduation from recognized university with at least 50% marks in major or in aggregate at the Degree level. But Scheduled Castes (S.C.), Scheduled Tribes (S.T.) & (O.B.C) candidates are to be entitled with a relaxation 5% marks in eligibility for admission.

The institute offers two years Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) course for those who have completed there graduation with minimum aggregate of 45 % from any recognized university are eligible to apply for this course.

Various teaching and learning techniques are being used by the faculty to impart knowledge and skills to students at College of Education, Guwahati in its various departments.
