Christian College, Chengannur (Dist. Alappuzha) was established in 1964 by Rt. Rev. Dr. Mathews Mar Athanasius, Christian College, Chengannur towers high as a centre of excellence in education on a hilltop with pristine beauty.
It is one of the prestigious Arts and Science Colleges owned and managed by the Malankara Mar Thoma Syrian Church and the college was established to impart & provide in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone on the part of progress.
The college is affiliated with the University of Kerala, Thiruvananthapuram and it is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) under Act, 1956.
It is re-accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "A" Grade - (in 2nd Cycle) on 15th September 2012.
It is a co-educational college, providing regular courses at primarily the higher secondary and undergraduate levels which are located in an urban part of a Chengannur played a pioneering role in the field of higher education.
The college always had its focus on academic excellence and formation of character and emphasis on the spread of spiritual truth and trust in God so as to produce intellectually well-trained, morally upright, socially conscious and spiritually inspired young men and women.
The aim of the college is to provide higher education in Arts & Science of the highest standard encouraging sound learning, building up a character and upholding moral and spiritual values. Creation of employment oriented skills is an additional goal.
The college now has grown into a full-fledged temple of learning with graduate courses in Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, Botany, Zoology, Economics, History, English & postgraduate courses in Economics, English, Physics & Analytical Chemistry.
The coat of arms of college reflects the task the college assigns to itself. The motto on the crest, "Our Utmost For The Highest" shows the real aim of the college.
The college strives to inculcate values like compassion, kindness, gentleness, and humanity among the students. Along with curricular progression of students, an equal emphasis is also given to ensure the development of the extra curricular skill of students.
The college conferred the status of grant-in-aid college that the fees and all the facilities for the students are fixed by the government. The student's admission is done as per the Admission Criteria prescribed by the affiliating university.
The college has awarded as the best college by the affiliating university and also a number of awards in publication, offering scholarship & also awarded by the different society.
The college offers three years undergraduate & two years postgraduate courses in Arts & Science stream with optional specializations under the University of Kerala, Thiruvananthapuram.
UG courses are under Choice Based Credit and Semester System (CBCSS) and PG courses are under Credit and Semester System (CSS) of the affiliating university. It also offers Add-On Certificate courses.
