Christ College, Cuttack was formerly known as Utkal Christian College, Cuttack was started functioning in its initial years as an Intermediate School established in 1944 in the premises of Christ Collegiate School building and managed by Cuttack Christian Education Board (CCEB).
The name of the college was finally changed to Christ College after the name of Jesus Christ in 1949. The college has been shifted to the main building from 1951.
It is one of the premier colleges established to impart & provide in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone in the part of progress.
It is affiliated with the Utkal University, Bhubaneswar and it is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) under Act, 1956.
It is accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "B+" Grade (in 1st Cycle) on 2nd February 2006.
The aim of the college is to impart proper knowledge to the educated youth in the field of arts and also to enable the prospective teacher to understand the nature, purpose, and spirit of Education.
It is a co-educational self-financed Institute, providing a regular course which is located in an urban part of a Cuttack played a pioneering role in the field of higher education.
Science classes were added to the existing Arts classes in 1960. According to the new regulations, +2 and +3 Courses in Arts & Science were introduced during the 1983 –84 and 1985 –86 academic sessions, respectively.
Besides English and Odia, teaching up to the honors stage in Philosophy, Mathematics, Economics, History, Political Science, Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology, and Sanskrit were progressively added. From the session 1993-94 teaching facilities in Psychology, Home Science and Electronics were provided for +2 students only. During 2000-2005, Education Pass and Honours in +3 Degree Courses was introduced.
In 2005-2010 Commerce Honours were introduced.
At the present College has an array of nearly 3,500 students on its rolls with about 80 qualified teachers. The pressing need of the college, however, is accommodation. The College runs in two shifts both in morning and afternoon separately for Arts, Commerce and Science classes, respectively.However, after the adjacent land was acquired by the college in the month of May 1979, with the kind help of the Government of Orissa, and a compound wall erected on the south, the college has a campus of its own now.
The college conferred the status of grant-in-aid college that the fees and all the facilities for the students are fixed by the government. The student's admission is done as per the Admission Criteria prescribed by the Utkal University, Bhubaneswar.
This college has conferred as the status as "College with Potential for Excellence (CPE)" and the best college by the Utkal University, Bhubaneswar. Also numbers of an award in publication, offering scholarship also awarded by the different societies.
The college offers two years intermediate courses in Arts, Commerce, and Science streams with various specializations under Council of Higher Secondary Education, Odisha.
The college also offers three years undergraduate courses in Arts, Commerce, and Science streams with various specializations under Utkal University, Bhubaneswar. It also offers self-financed courses for the students.
